The leadership gap.
I won't be the first person to say it: we are in era where leadership is in decline. While most of the 20th century was built by leadership by force, top-down and rigid, the Information Revolution, starting in the late 1990s, created leadership by ideas. Coders and "innovators" were, by definition, leaders; as long as they could delegate project management away from them, their big ideas were enough. It was a "leadership of the mind."
The consequences of this—segregating ideas from their human impact—create the world we see: truth decay, organizations as extraction engines, leaders as tactical managers or demagogues. Along the way, work becomes a place where fewer and fewer people want to be.
